One-Shot Prompting.

There is only one prompting technique to know for AI like ChatGPT.

WARNING: No, there is much more. And I cover most of them here and here.

But for us, mere mortals, trying our best to use a chatbot superintelligence, there is one & only one prompting technique:

One-shot prompting.

"One-shot prompting? Why is the name so technical?"

It's not. I promise. I asked ChatGPT to explain it to me like I'm 10:

Give an example to ChatGPT before asking anything

As simple as this: prompt what you want AND give ChatGPT a good example of what you want.

You can't have one without the other.

"But what if I don't know what I want?"

Well, how do you expect an AI to know it for you?

Yes, you can use ChatGPT (or other LLMs) to discover things, experiment & brainstorm.

Sometimes, you just want a straight answer, like a quick analysis or a short answer.

But for the rest → you must master one-shot prompting.

Let's dive into quick examples where I'm vibing my way with ChatGPT.

Generic vs. Tasteful

You want to find the right title for your YouTube video about sourdough bread.

The generic method

ChatGPT is now so much better at zero-shot answering, without any example.

But we can do better.

The one-shot method, without taste

1 - Go to Mr Beast's profile.

2 - Take a screenshot of his last video titles.

3 - Ask ChatGPT to make a title using the one-shot example of Mr Beast.

It already has more taste to it. But some are completely out of context.

The tasteful one-shot method

1 - Since we are in the food niche, go to a food influencer on YouTube (like Joshua Weissman).

2 - Take a screenshot of his video titles that performed best.

3 - Ask ChatGPT to make titles using them.

Pinterest ads

This is one of my favorite case studies.

Go to Pinterest → Type "ads + niche" → Make a stack of ads you love → Ask ChatGPT to recreate them.

It takes 20 seconds to recreate most ads. No photo shoot needed.

Pattern recognition

Success is pattern recognition. I ask ChatGPT to help me recognize it.

Here's an example with a viral infographic. How could you recreate it? Just ask it properly.

I can't even add the entire brief, it's way too long.

____

I could go on for hours in expanding case studies.

Before I leave you for another week until my next blog, I have a couple of questions.

I want to update my course on prompt engineering.

Don't buy this one!! I'll create a better version with your help.

Please reply to this email with A, B, or C (I read every reply myself):

☑ A → I want to master ChatGPT.

☑ B → I want to master more tools than ChatGPT.

☑ C → I want to create better content, with AI or not.

Who are you? A, B, or C?

I'll share more details in next week's newsletter.

I am vibe creating this course at this point :)

PS: One last word for the obsessed living in Tel Aviv, Israel.

I live in Tel Aviv. I am creating a space for us, obsessed builders.

If you'd like to join us, fill up this form: https://tally.so/r/3NdzdW.

You must:

  1. Live in Tel Aviv.
  2. Build an already profitable business.
  3. Work solo (physically), wanting to live in a community of builders.

We are already 7. We're looking for the remaining 3.

Non-obsessed will be denied.
